Renewing Your Domain Name
Keeping your domain name active by renewing it before its expiration date is crucial for maintaining your website and email services. This guide explains how to renew your domain name registered through dotCanada.com.
When to Renew Your Domain
We recommend renewing your domain at least 30 days before its expiration date to avoid any service interruptions. You can renew your domain at any time, even if it's not close to expiring - the renewal period will be added to the current expiration date.
Domain Expiration Timeline
Timeline | What Happens |
---|---|
30-60 days before expiration | Renewal notices sent via email |
Expiration date | Domain still works but enters "grace period" |
1-30 days after expiration | Domain may stop working; renewal still possible at regular price |
30-60 days after expiration | Domain enters "redemption period" - renewal possible with additional fee |
60+ days after expiration | Domain may be released for public registration; recovery no longer possible |
